Program Overview

We provide adult literacy, GED, and college prep courses with a two generation (2GEN) component for mothers with children 0-3 years old. Our students learn in small groups supported by tutors and an excellent educational support staff. The 2GEN program also includes Parent and Child Together (PACT) classes and a Mom Time support group. Developmental early childhood education for 0-3 year old children is provided at no cost to women enrolled in the program. The program is designed to integrate play, discovery, and early literacy activities in a safe and stimulating environment. Learning goals are established for the preschoolers in this program, and parents are encouraged and equipped to reinforce these objectives at home.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

"My name is Jasmine. I am 23 years old. In order for my kids and me to have a better future, I want to get my G.E.D., so I can get going on my career. Literacy and Beyond is flexible and understanding. With Jessie and Martha my dream goal can now be done! Thank you again Literacy and Beyond for the second chance!"

"Being a young single mother of seven children with a lack of support and adequate childcare, this program allows me to bring my children. It helps me overcome that barrier that has held me back from being able to complete high school as well as any other GED programs." -- Kassandra, current student

"I am unbelievably thankful for this program and everything it helps with! Being a parent who did not get to finish school, it seems impossible to pick up where I left off. This program has made it possible, and without it I may never have gotten the chance. This is the only program like it, and it is beneficial for more than you could possible know!" - Ashley, 2017 GED Graduate
